Place2Give creates GivingTuesday Fund to help celebrate the start of the giving season

GivingTuesday movement encourages Canadians to feel great about giving

For Immediate Release, November 27, 2013

Calgary, Canada – Place2Give is proud to join GivingTuesday, a global movement that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners – charities, families, businesses and individuals – to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

Taking place December 3, 2013 – the Tuesday after Black Friday – GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.

The GivingTuesday movement aligns beautifully with the Dexterity Ventures Inc.’s (parent company of Place2Give) mission of helping others.  The Place2Give GivingTuesday Fund was created by each member of the Place2Give team providing a cause that has extra meaning to them. The Fund was built around these personal connections.

“We are very happy to partner with the GivingTuesday movement” says Karine Aviv, Marketing Manager at Dexterity Ventures Inc. “Place2Give.com is a charity search engine and as such we do not rank organizations.  The GivingTuesday initiative is providing us with the opportunity to share some of our favorite charities with the public while continuing discussions around the giving process.”

GivingTuesday, initiated in Canada by CanadaHelps, GIV3, and several other partners, marks the opening day of the giving season. The movement encourages individuals and organizations to join together and find innovative ways to give back to the charities and causes they support throughout the holiday season. Charities, business, media and even individuals are encouraged to join in making a pledge to participate to make Canada’s first annual GivingTuesday a resounding success.

"We are really excited to support this new movement, and to help people connect with their communities,” said John Hallward, Chairman, GIV3. “It is about feeling great giving...in December and throughout the year!"

About GivingTuesday

GivingTuesday was created by 92nd Street Y, which led the effort in partnership with the UN Foundation. GivingTuesday is launching for the first time in Canada in 2013.
