API provides access to North American charity data

Calgary, Canada – Dexterity Ventures Inc. (DVI) has released the newest version of the GIVE_api, which provides access to the information that DVI has gathered on more than 1.6 million charities across North America. The XML/JSON web service gives developers the ability to quickly add philanthropy into a web or mobile based application.

A free tool, developers can use the GIVE_api to facilitate giving and social good for their customers, employees, vendors, and partners. Users can search for, obtain information about, and give to the charity of their choice with our GIVE_api integration.

Organizations give donors opportunity to amplify their support for Nepal earthquake relief

The Place2Give Nepal Relief Fund, launched to help direct donations to organizations that have experience working with groups in Nepal and that are operating on the ground addressing the earthquake’s aftermath, is excited to offer donors the opportunity to amplify their generosity. Agencies involved with the Fund have announced that they are the beneficiaries of donation matching opportunities launched by their partner organisations. An example of this is the Rotary International Foundation which has pledged to match donations, up to $25,000, made to Shelterbox Canada through the end of the Nepal relief campaign.

Calgary, Canada – In response to the recent earthquake that struck Nepal on Sunday, Place2Give has launched the Nepal Relief Fund. The fund has been created to help direct donations to organizations that have experience working with groups in Nepal and are operating on the ground addressing the earthquake disaster.

“The organizations we have selected for the Place2Give Nepal Relief Fund have a proven track record during a time of crisis and in going about their day-to-day operations” says Gena Rotstein, CEO of Dexterity Ventures Inc., parent company of and the Place2Give Foundation. “As always, there is the Red Cross. While the Red Cross has a strong history of disaster relief, if your goal as a donor is to see a direct impact, and you value the emotional connection around how your funds will be spent, there are other choices.”

The event, to be held on April 18-19 at the Hotel Arts in Calgary, Alberta, will bring together families and their advisors, whether they currently have a private foundation, if they are thinking of setting up a foundation, or are interested in how their personal investments can be effectively invested in values-aligned companies.

Calgary, Canada – Place2Give is proud to announce that they are joining the GivingTuesday movement for a second year in a row. GivingTuesday is a global movement that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners – charities, families, businesses and individuals – to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season.

Taking place December 2, 2014 – the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday – GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social good (and social media) to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how the shopping days have become synonymous with holiday shopping. This year, there is a special initiative led by members of the Calgary community to promote GivingTuesday on a local level - GivingTuesdayYYC. Calgary, Canada – In response to the recent spread of Ebola hemorrhagic fever, the Place2Give Foundation has created an Ebola Emergency Relief Fund to support the relief efforts.

“As a result of the spread of Ebola, not only are people dying, but children are being orphaned and families are being shunned” says Gena Rotstein, CEO of Dexterity Ventures Inc. “The organizations we have chosen for our Motif Giving Fund address the Ebola crisis at different stages, and aim to help assist in aiding the relief effort on different fronts.”

Based on research Place2Give identified three organizations that are making a meaningful difference in the fight against Ebola.  “We have selected these agencies for this fund because we are confident that we can report back information on use of proceeds to our donors in a timely fashion,” says Rotstein.

Dexterity Ventures has launched The Whistler GROW Fund for the attending tech companies along with the angel and investor communities who have converged in Whistler, BC for GROW 2014. Last year during the Alberta floods, a similar fund started by the Dexterity Ventures raised over $1.1 million in donations, which were distributed to 20 local charities.
