Place2Give Partners with GivingTuesday Canada to promote giving this holiday season

In this second in a series of blogs about the Place2Give GivingTuesday Fund, we want to encourage our readers to give more this holiday season.

Many people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday... now GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on December 3, 2013.  It is a new Canadian day of giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  The “Opening day of the giving season,” GivingTuesday is a day where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favorite causes and think about others.  The goal is to heighten the importance of giving, improve attitudes, and increase giving and volunteering behaviour.  We have two days that are good for the economy.  Now we have a day that is good for the community too.

Place2Give has created a special GivingTuesday Fund which consists of some of the team’s favorite charities.  Following are a few more of the charities that were chosen for the Fund and the reasons why:

The Calgary Poppy Fund

“Veterans have given and sacrificed more than most of us are ever willing to do.  Without veterans though the years, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we all now take for granted.” Richard Nagan, Place2Give Foundation Board Member

The Pembina Foundation

“They have a proven track record of working with both industry and community around complex issues facing the environment and economic development. They have a national presence and an international reputation and their leadership team is stellar and I am confident that the funds that are provided to them make a difference in the work that they do.” Gena Rotstein, CEO Dexterity Ventures Inc.

Safe Haven Foundation of Canada

"Safe Haven is an effective way to donate to a focused range of at-risk children and youth charities. I was initially drawn to Safe Haven because they are efficient and business minded."  Lyndon Ward, Dexterity Ventures Inc. Board of Directors member.

The Canadian Hero Fund

“There are few higher callings than that of public service. Often those that choose to serve do so at great personal and family expense. Having paid witness to the sacrifices of men and women in the service of Canadians I believe that it is important to support the education for families of those who have served and paid the highest price.” Alfred Klein, Place2Give Foundation Board of Directors member.
